The answer depends upon whether someone is a conspiracy theorist or not.

When I saw this video, I got really excited, but after a lot of research I found out a few things..

1) the out of pocket is 40K for a similar system
2) you get back (aprox) $7500 in tax rebates
3) At this point there is no State Rebate (but that may change, charles says that if you get in when it opens you can get a 50% rebate)
4) Payback on the investment is 30 years

great idea...
but..

Jonathan

Yeah, he got free installation (self), panels at cost, and he scored the rebate when they opened the gates for the 30 seconds they gave them out(near impossible).

I'm with you macgeek, I'll hold out for a cheaper solar panel when it is only a 10 year return on investment or so.

Yep, controlled individually from anywhere you get a data connection to your phone or any web browser. Iphone and Android have the app, it is called radio thermostats.

Here is an old screen grab from my phone. These are my three AC units for my house. Tapping on one brings up the detailed controls:

The requirement you are talking about is just a C-wire. It is a powered wire that is used to power the thermostat and wifi module. My house was pre-wired with these to all three thermostats. Any thermostat with an LCD display will require these usually. Alternately you can use a 24-volt external power supply to power it or there is even a way to use your fan wire (switch it to a power wire at the main board), then wire your fan at the main board to turn on automatically when the heater/ac turns on.

Here is a link to the thermostat at Home Depot >> click.

On the web application, Iphone or Android?

Did you run their little setup utility...did they have one for Mac? Otherwise try logging in here >> https://www.radiothermostat.com/filt...anagement.aspx Then click the add device tab at the top right.

Did you provision them already? Do the thermostats have a green light flashing on the left side or a yellow light? I'm guessing you have an Iphone, you can provision them from there if you haven't (read this).
