I wish that the powers that be would install a traffic sensor at that intersection so that it would only be tripped when there are cars waiting to enter Trop from Buffalo. It is highly aggravating to sit at that light when there is no cross traffic.

Your not suffering alone MadMan. There's plenty of those types of intersections around. When I was living in Henderson, I would get caught at the green valley/Sunset intersection to turn left onto Sunset. Knowing I would be waiting for a good 3 minutes, I would bring a snack with me.

How about Allen/Craig. You can sit there for days before the light ever turns green to turn left, going north on Allen.

Wow, we are neighbors! I'm between Buffalo and Durango too. Interestingly, I usually make that light. The light I used to hate until they fixed it was Buffalo and Peace Way. They fixed it about six months ago, but for a long time the sensor was broken (I found this out when I e-mailed the city to complain). I literally (no hyperbole) had to stop at that signal at least 90% of the time when going north or south on Buffalo (even when there was no traffic on Peace Way) and wait while it cycled through every combination of of green lights and green arrows before I could go again. It's much better now.

Does anyone know if you are allowed to take your own chairs to Aviation Nation? Will they let you on the bus with them? I think we're going tomorrow and haven't been to it since they started busing people from the Speedway. I assume you should take water too, or is that not allowed on the bus?

With the caveat that I haven't been since 2007, we've never had problems taking fold-up lawn chairs on the buses.

I went 2 years ago and they would not allow us to take bottled water in. You either had to toss it or drink it fast. They do this so you can pay $3 for a tiny bottle inside. Those super humongous long lines for the buses were a royal pain. Once was enough for me.

I just found this site. It looks like you can take clear plastic water bottles and "small" lawn chairs: Nellis Air Force Base - Security

1R/L departures are common during north winds and will become even more common as we move into winter. Those runways are used 50-60% of the time during the winter months but rarely see action during other times of the year.

EDITED TO ADD: Jet aircraft are also noticeably louder when the relative humidity is higher, and it's been up there for the past couple of days. We're pretty luck here most days of the year with very low humidity, but on the more unstable days the planes will seem quite a bit louder.
I'm replying to this because it may be relevant to a couple of my other posts re: a friend who just bought a home in the 89108 zip...didn't hear large aircraft during summer and now is hearing either Nellis or McCarran flights every twenty minutes or so...this is near Vegas Air Terminal. When I listen to it, it sounds like more commercial jets, rather than military, but I'm no expert when it comes to that. There's been a back and forth debate going on saying "this is Nellis' and "no it's not Nellis' and so forth lol...not to laugh but its seems Vegas residents aren't able to determine what's up there in the sky booming over their heads. Anyway, good info to know just in general and also to help out others who may be considering buying a home out here. Thanks also to PinkString for your comments....pretty much seems to sum up the issues in Vegas....few if any people out here are immune to this noise, although some are likely more impacted than others.

Why don't you ask him to walk outside and look up in the sky to see what's flying over? It's not that difficult to tell the difference between an F-18/C-17 or a 737/A320. That would pretty quickly answer your question as to whether LSV or LAS is responsible.
