First thing I do when I check into a hotel room is search the bed for bugs.

Is it true that spraying eucalyptus oil on a mattress for example will keeps bugs at bay?

My FIL sprays everything when he checks into a hotel room-swears by it.

No sure, that is the first time that I have heard that one. If you look online you can find just about anything and everything on what people suggest. I gave up look, because what may work for some, may not work for another person.

I just know what chemicals to use that kill them, that is all I care about, LOL.

But if they are in the room, just putting that around the bed does not work. A very easy way to bring them home is for them to hitch hike on your suit case or clothes that may have been on the floor and then you put them in your suit case and bring them home.

Just had a customer last week that had spent a week in San Diego, and guess what? Yep, brought them home.

When you check into your hotel room. Place or have your bags placed in the bathroom. If the room is infested. You wont be taking them home in your luggage.

We actually keep them in the hall. But the bathroom is a great idea, usually tile in there. They like warmth.

My girlfriend always takes a can of Lysol and sprays the bed sheets, bed spread and sofa/chairs in the hotel room before doing anything else. Don't know if it helps, but it makes her happy.

You can just pack Hefty bags and seal your luggage in two bags when you get to the hotel and throw the bags away when you leave.

I am from back east and the earwigs that I am used to seeing back there are much bigger than the ones we have seen here (these are about the only bugs out here that seem smaller). Like you, I did not notice there legs nor did a see the pincers as they seemed very small compared to eastern earwigs. I saved on in a plastic bag and showed it to the exterminator and low and behold it was an earwig.

I also agree that they just seem to appear out of thin air.

Here's a solution: Just have the Bug bully go into the room first while you wait out in the hall with your luggage.
