The weaker that the economy becomes, the greater that Las Vegas grows. Those who have it to flaunt, come with the mindset of relaxation, a bit of nightlife,
a bit of gambling. the other mokes are those who live on the edge, the ones who think that their big score is right around the corner, just the flip of a card or
the very next pull on the lever, will carry them away from the worries of survival now, in a fleeting and wounded economy. Las Vegas is salvation for them, that
last hurrah, the final frontier. Either they are celebrating a rapidly vanishing lifestyle or throwing the dice into a pit of hope that they will walk away with an instant win
that will allow them to leave their burdens behind. Vegas is that oasis in this desert of economic woe that tells the gambler that there is always a shorter route to the orient,
a faster and a better way to arriving at the American dream. As long as the nation suffers, the nightlife, the casinos and the illusion of grandiose that surround the fool who
thinks that attaining happiness can be as simple as holding or folding a few cards.

How shameful it is that there is such an emphasis on the concept of finding relief in the hands of luck, that sharp business acumen and sincere determination are taking a backseat
to what seems to be nothing more than the spin of a wheel or the turning of a card. If you see a measure of envy in my comment, that isn't my sentiment at all but I'll never understand just
what it is that keeps people coming to Vegas with the notion of changing their world, without taking a deeper look at their world and spending their money there.

People come to Las Vegas to escape "their world" eddie, so they can go back to their humdrum-conservative ways and their stressful lives, to be able to do everything in Las Vegas they can't do "back home", to let loose and let off steam, to have choices upon choices, always something new and different in Las Vegas and it's ever-changing.

That's a lot of the "draw" of Las Vegas, not just Lady Luck and gambling.

Heck, a lot of the touristas that come here can gamble in casinos near their homes, there are so many of them nowadays "but they sure ain't VEGAS!"

Very true. A lot of people do not know this. I still find people that give me the look when I tell them about Nellis or Creech Air Base. They dont even know that they exist IN VEGAS. And one is on Las Vegas Blvd. LOL

Yes indeed we do. Thousands of military affiliates are forced to pump money into the Vegas economy. But we dont mind.

And most people don't know the vital role Las Vegas will play in case of a God-forbid nuclear attack in our country.

We have Nellis as ground control and command central over that scenario.

So, yeah, we ARE a military type town. No where else can you go shopping in the grocery store and see a guy in camoflage gear in one aisle, and Elvis in the next aisle.

Oh, it can get very noisey at times. But it does have its quiet hours.

For most people its just not a factor for them to anything about the far North East section of Vegas. Out of sight out of mind.

Im sure the strip has more noise polution than the base. The base is every now and then. The strip is 24/7.

Nellis was also critical to WW2. I believe it was a training base for gunners back then. Back then the base was called "Las Vegas Army Air Field". Maybe if they would have kept this name it would be more popular with the locals...LOL.
