I know there have been a few threads on here about doctors. I've not found a good doctor here in my 6 years although I very seldom go to a doctor as I have not found one I click with.

I am technically a pre-diabetic. I am fairly young I am not obese but would say I am slightly overweight. I have had 3 gestational diabetic pregnancies. I have a blood glucose monitor and use it and know my fastings (upon waking) readings are too high (not technically diabetic but pre-diabetic). I don't know my father's family history very well (but my mom's side is not diabetic even though several are clinically obese) except his family tends to die young of heart problems as he sent me a letter many years ago that his cardiologist said he should send to his children that he had a heart condition and undiagnosed diabetes. He's also hispanic (hereditary it seems). He was in fairly good shape as he was in his young 40's and career military.

After trying to deal with my blood glucose readings on my own I finally broke down to see a doc who of course had me take a fasting blood test which of course was too high. I explained all my measures including exercise and carb and calorie control, supplements like chromium. He just told me I'd be diabetic within a few years time. Oh, and by the way did I realize I had a heart murmur of at least grade 2 that even my OB/GYN should have caught (I guess he made that remark as that is the last regular care I have had was my last pregnancy 2 years ago). He offered no tests or f/u for other than testing my blood for iron deficiency which I wasn't. This was 9 months ago.

So today I finally get up the gumption to try some doctors again and tried those that specialize in endocrinology but as I don't have a primary care doc they won't see me.

So are there any decent doctors in the Knoxville area that are into actually helping a patient take care of their health before it deteriorates? I'm not interested in looking for problems but solutions. My goal is to live a long and healthy life I have BCBS PPO insurance it's not like I'm on TennCare or something.

I go to Dr. Rice at the West Hills Baptist Health Center (865) 588-8143. They used to be just for seniors but now they treat all adults.
I've been seeing him for several years now and he's impressed me as being into preventative care. I joke that when I see him every year in February for a check up and prescription renewal, I end up spending the next month seeing specialists. If something isn't quite right in the blood tests, he'll want to see if it's something more than a blip.
So far, everything has just been blips.
I generally have liked the doctors he's referred me to. He's been around awhile and knows everyone.
