Kentucky feels Southern to me. Southern Illinois feels Midwestern to me. yet only a river separates the 2.

Ditto! My hubby calls it the Midwest and I'm like, whaaaat? ... We we were born and raised in the south!

However, when I say I am from the south, people always assume AL, FL! etc.

HUGz! Jules

As a mid-westerner (Illinois), I insist KY must be a southern state. With your buffoon senator Mitch McConnell, you cannot conceivably consider yourself a mid-western state. We are smarter than that.

Depends on if you're north or south of I-64.

If Illinois is so smart, then why do its politicians suck so bad at math? If they had even basic arithmetic skills, the state wouldn't be insolvent.

Okay! You're being a southern stereotype with bad grammar and a biased grasp of history.

And YOU are being a Yankee stereotype by saying that all Kentuckians are too stupid to be Midwestern. How cocky of you.

Fords; you are correct but also missing part of the picture (as well as some conversational finesse). There were Kentuckians who fought for the north and the Mason-Dixon ends at the Ohio river (it is not a valid line for any state west of PA/MD). Not to mention that the M-D line is not an accurate north/south border in modern times.

THAT ASIDE; Kentucky IS a southern state. It is full of southern culture and so on, so forth. However we, as mature adults, must acknowledge that it does in fact have cultural and financial ties to the Midwest due to proximity. This will cause confusion in some and uninformed opinions in others.

rfp; Illinois has a long history of being one of the most corrupt states in the entire nation. You have misplaced your pride if you have invested it into Illinois politicians.

Aside from that the Midwest is not the intellectual utopia you seem to believe it is, neither is the South the cultural wasteland you seem to think it is.

I would recommend toning down that self serving speech if you wish to make valid points. Respect your neighbors.

Just my two cents on these posts.
