I live in that area, and Johnny's is terrible. When some out-of-state friends were in for my wedding, they somehow ended up there. Too bad for them.

I used to live in Roeland Park and tried Johnny's once. It is terrible, not sure how it stays in business. There's a decent bbq joint on Lamar and Johnson drive (RJ's Bob E Que, I think) that I had a few times as well. Ribs were decent, but the sandwiches were great. Fries and beans were good as well and it's pretty cheap. Seems like they always had a daily special for $5 or something.

I thought you didn't live in Roeland Park/Mission anymore? I thought you moved to another state.

According to Johnny's website, they've been open since 1977. There's another location in Olathe. Some people don't mind simple and are just looking to be fed and filled up at a reasonable price. I forgot to mention their beans, which I had and were basically like Bush's out of a can. And for all I know, they were. I think that was the most disappointing part of my meal at Johnny's.

I may try RJ's next.

I have heard really good things about Smokin Guns in NKC just across the river from Downtown. Has anybody been?

Nope, we're a military family with homes in both Mission and at my husband's current duty station. For the past ten months, we've been splitting time between the two, and our address of record is our Mission house. Which is right down the street from both Johnny's and RJ's, as it were.

Tried it a month or so ago. .. decent, but nothing worth going out of your way for.

Played a gig at Hayward's over near College and Antioch the other night. Barbecue was so-so, beer was good.
