Great BBQ joints across America - Yahoo! Travel

FTA:
The food is over-the-top good, from the creative specialty sandwiches to the exquisite brisket, but especially the superlative rack of pork ribs, as perfectly prepared as you will ever see -- ribs do not get any better than these. There may be no better BBQ joint in the nation.

They emphasize these aren't the "10 best" in the country, just great places to eat.

I wouldn't even put OK Joes in the top five in KC

OK Joe's is in the top 1. If you disagree, you're wrong.

This is a fact.

I'm not a fan of OK Joe's sauces - they are sweeter than I like. However, I think they do an outstanding job with their meats. I like to get the food to go and put another sauce (like Gates) on it.

I'm very sorry that you cannot experience the sensation of taste.

Okie Joe's is #1 by a long shot. Brisket, ribs, burnt ends, the Z-Man, the Carolina, are all extraordinary.

Like their meat, just not the sauce. It also doesn't have the "soul" that places like Bryants, LC's or even Gates has. I wouldn't take an out of towner there for their first KC bbq experience. Maybe their second.

Well the location and ambience certainly isn't all that terrific. But the food, oh the food.

I took my future brother in law there, a Boston native, and he freaking loved it. Won't stop talking about it. He wants them to cater the wedding rehearsal dinner.

The great thing is we have tons of places - great and simply good. A place like Rosedale's in KCK or Hayward's in OP or BB's in SKC are pretty good, but not up there with the big boys (OKJ, Gates, AB's, Fiorella's and LC's in my opinion), but in any other city they'd be considered one of the best.

I had OK Joe's cater our wedding rehearsal dinner. Our only regret was not having them cater the wedding as well.

It's #1. Statement of fact.

Their sauce actually reminds of sauce I had while living in Oklahoma. There's a sauce that's popular down there called "Head Country" and I think OKJ's sells it. I think there might be a style of sauce unique to Oklahoma, but I'm not sure what distinguishes it.

I think Arthur Bryant's is my favorite KC BBQ. Gates is probably second. OKJ's is okay, but I'm not sure it would be third. I think I like Wyandot's food and sauce better than OKJ's, despite the local-yokel/redneck atmosphere that doesn't feel welcoming. Rosedale also has a good and thin spicy sauce like Wyandot, but their turkey is like low-grade deli turkey with added solution. One thing I really like about Gates is the high-quality smoked turkey. Turkey's delicateness serves as an excellent canvas for that awesome smoky flavor from whatever wood it is they use.

Oklahoma Joe's is good. I prefer the Olathe location to the KCK one; much nicer dining atmosphere. I haven't been to the one in Leawood.

My two favorite BBQ places in KC are Jack Stack (Overland Park) and Oklahoma Joe's (Olathe). I know some people rave about Gates, but I have never liked Gates. Seems like fast food BBQ to me or something. I like Zarda, especially their baked beans. Used to like Hayward's but last time I went, several years ago, it didn't seem as good.

Wyandot is mediocre and is okay once in a while if I don't feel like going further for BBQ, but I am liking them less and less all the time. Rosedale is okay, but nothing special to me.
