Who is credited with uttering the following statement?

"I am not in favor of erecting memorials to people who are living. I think it bad business because a person may do something before he dies that will make the people want to tear the memorial down."

Well then, who said the Vice Presidency was "not worth a bucket of warm ****"?. [This word was automatically censored by site management. It starts with the letter "p" and ends with the letter "s."]

In early years after this statement was made, it was quoted for public consumption as being "not worth a bucket of warm spit."

I am thinking MRG Dallas has the answer.

PS...I once partied there when it was off westside 435 south of the Stadiums

Anyone else remember that C&W place, circa 1982?

MRG got the name right about who made the statement about the Vice Presidency but it seems to have been in a roundabout way, I think.

The comment was made by Cactus Jack aka John Nance Garner IV, a career federal politician from Texas, who won his first election as a representative in 1898 and became Speaker of the House in the early thirties.

He then became vice president for eight years and finished his term three years before Truman became vice president. He made the comment after leaving office.

What Independence institution was established on September 4, 1866? It is still in business today, and has grown tremendously. Most regulars in this thread have been affected by it.
