Not a problem, I was wearing my safety shoes! That other guy was right, I was waiting to see if anyone else knew.

I don't recollect when it first appeared, perhaps as early as the mid-to-late 1960s. I'm pretty sure it was there until Sterling was widened.

In regards to my latest mystery photo- The view is looking east, and if I stood at the same spot today I'd probably get splattered. The view now is vastly different, so much so that I'm not even sure I could get the same orientation.

Presumably that was the M.S. White Wholesale Candy & Tobacco Co, at 211 W. Lexington (now "50 Plus Prescriptions") ?

I figured I was looking east, since you said the picture was taken in the winter, and with the low shadows and all. That's the easy part!

It was on the south side of the square in the 100 block of West Lexington. It was in front of the Bodge Tobacco Shop, which apparently became Elsea's Cigars and Tobaccos at some point.

I don't see either establishment listed for 1960 or 1956 Would those have been around or am I looking too early or too late?

Edit: Ok got a reference point: Bodge, Harrison R (Lucille), Cigars, 107 1/2 W Lexington, Res. 501 N. Main . . . 1940

Probably too late. Elsea's was around in 1945 but then may have been sold. I recall the Indian when just a little guy in the late 40s but I am not sure about the mid fifties after I started driving.

Our messages crossed wires:

Looks like it's at the site of today's "Game Cafe" In 1946 it was listed as Elsea's Lunch, and in the pic might have been Briggs Cafe to the left (with Deluxe Beauty & Barber Shop) Maybe Bunting Hardware to the right.

Hints:
- Looking east
- Vastly different now
- The cross street across the bottom of the screen is, and was, Lee's Summit Road.
