Last week I saw a job where my neighbor works. He was kind enough to pass on my resume which then led to a woman from HR to contact me. It was a phone interview of sorts.. see what my skills are etc. She tells me she will contact me this week to come in and meet with the IT manager but here we are on Tuesday and still no word? Should I give it until Friday and give her a call?

It is way too early to start calling her. If she said "this week" than you have to wait.

Your neighbor also did you a favor and gave you an edge over others. You don't want to come off as a "pest".

I would say if you don't hear back by next Tuesday then it would be OK to ask for a status.

There is nothing wrong with initiative but maybe it's too early. Do you have her contact info to thank her for the phone interview? If you don't know her email, then you could lookup the company online. Then you could at least mail a short note or thank you card to her to say thanks for the phone interview.

Don't wait too long though... I would honestly do it Monday, if you call Friday she may well forget.

Monday is a good idea. It will be fresh in her mind, rather than the weekend.

I would wait till Tuesday. Monday is never a good day to call about follow up on an interview.

If you want to call on Monday, wait till after 2pm.

It is better to call mid week. Maybe Wednesday or Thursday. Monday is not good for calling the HR department of the company you are applying.
