Hi Everyone!
I just moved to Jacksonville (from up North) 3 months ago and know very little about the area. I am taking a class at FCCJ about local law and government and they asked me to make a list of the laws I would like to see changed here in Jacksonville. I am trying to do research but cant really find anything specific so I thought who better to ask than the great locals on this website. Are there any laws that you think should be changed, also any laws specific to Jacksonville that you are particularly proud of? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

For Jax (and all of FL), they need to be much harsher on criminals. With the laws in FL they way they are, we will continue to attract "undesirables" ... we arent know as the "last refuge of the scoundrel" for nuthin'.

Thanks so much for responding! can I ask you exactly what you mean by criminals? are you referring to drug cases/ murders/ rape etc? and what exactly do you mean by "the laws in F the way they are"? how are they exactly? dont want to ask silly questions but i really know nothing about the laws in Florida and every search i do takes me to some advertisement for lawyers in Florida.

Alikats -

Are you looking for local Jacksonville laws, or statewide Florida laws? They are two very different things.

Here is a like to the Jax municipal code. This covers everything that is a "Jacksonville" law, and not a state or federal law. (be sure to click "more" at the bottom. There is A LOT of code).

http://www.municode.com/resources/ga...id=12174&sid=9

For example, if you want to suck up to a liberal professor, you could argue amending chapter 620 on firearms to pass more strict regulations on handguns. Or you could talk about chapter 799, which levies a 6 cent gas tax on every gallon sold in Jax. You could argue to raise it or lower it for whatever reason.

We can decriminalize marijuana and let our police force focus on the thugs out there who are putting Jacksonville at the top of the Most Murders list year after year.

That's chapter 790.

I agree. I read that Jax beach is actually working on getting "the dicriminalization of marjiuana" on the ballot at the next city election. IMO that would be a huge step forward for NE FL..

Give the pot heads (who are dumb enough to get caught) a slap on the wrists, a citation (including a reasonable fine), and let them go back to their Funions and bob marley cd.

(FYI, i dont smoke pot....well..not anymore . Just think we need to get with it, and focus our resources where they are needed)
