mx3kr: Do a search of availability and quality of hospital nursing positions in the cities being discussed and I think you will see why I recommend Tampa. Trees and hills will not put money in your wallet. The Tampa metro area really has a lot going for it and is far removed from the "south FL scene" you want to leave. Research the cost of living /salary data / housing costs. Population demographics are a good mix of all age groups and cultures. If you haven't spent any time there, go check it out.

Tallahassee is a city that you need to visit to experience.

Its a great place. not to big, not to small. Just right.

Has a growing nightlife scene, and is developing nicely.

You should see it.

Tallahassee metro is going to be a little bigger than Gainesville, but much smaller than JAX or Tampa. The population is about 375,000.

ssclulow you make a good point in regards to employment. The hospital I currently work for is doing some pretty big cuts w forced time off, cutting paid time off and calling us off. I would hate to relocate and end up in the same situation.

Another aspect this is not mentioned. Tampa is much more seasonal with snowbirds etc, like most of South Florida. Jacksonville's population is the same all year. We do have things like TPC and Florida-Georgia weekend but the congestion is limited to the areas around the venues or some of the bar areas.

(and just to get this out of the way. Jacksonville is filled with ignorant, backwards, inbred and worst of all Southern rednecks.... NOTE THE SARCASM PLEASE)

Jax is a growing city. But not crazy congested like Miami or Atlanta. No we dont have a Neiman Marcus or an IKEA but you can get pretty much anything you need without leaving the metro area. And as with any metro area of 1 million or more, there are nice areas and crappy areas. Tampa is not a Paradise by the bay. You will find some good opportunites in Healthcare. We have Shands, St Vincents, Baptist, Memorial and Orange Park Hospitals; St Vincents is building a new Hospital in Clay County and the others are expanding as well; Not to mention the Mayo Clinic being here in Jacksonville. And depending on your degree, there are a few Nursing schools here where you may even get to teach as an adjunct or full-time if that's something that interests you
