Hi, i will be moving to Jacksonville, Fl from Tallahassee, Fl at the end of June, and will be attending FSCJ downtown campus and was wondering what areas would be safe for a single 18 year and which ones wouldn't. I was also wondering how is the social life, i dont want to club, but what are things for young people to do that is fun and cheap. I will be looking into finding a couple of roommates to room with and do you guys think this is a safe thing.

Thanks, Jasmine.

Riverside would be a nice place to rent. They have old quaint houses. You can walk to the grocery store and Starbucks. The way to do it is drive up and down the streets and you can see the rental signs. -Areas around Five Points.

Anywhere in Riverside/5 Points west of Margaret Street all the way to Stockton Street! Or in the San Marco area. (a short 3 mile commute across the Main Street Bridge to FSCJ Downtown campus) Look for rentals to share on Craigslist. Whats your budget and do you have transportation? As more info narrows the search down some with better suggestions.

With a budget of $700-$800 you can afford a place all on your own, unless I'm misunderstanding what your saying. Then an $800 budget will get you a very nice 2 br/1 ba apartment just about anywhere in Riverside. And a decent but not great 2br/1 ba in San Marco. I dont believe you can get a 3br/2ba in either Riverside or San Marco for under $1000.
Good luck and please don't hesitate to ask for any info you need.

Riverside & Avondale historic district, San Marco, and the Springfield historic district would all be ideal, in that order.

All are close to school, and if you lived in SPR you could easily take a bicycle (many students do).

Most apartments in these neighborhoods will be on Craigslist, as they don't have huge corporate complexes. Just be careful to make sure the apartment you find is actually IN those neighborhoods. Feel free to ask if you have a question about that.

There are sketchy areas directly next to all of those neighborhoods which advertise themselves incorrectly to get people interested, where you wouldn't want to live or hangout in.

Here's some good examples of what you'll find:

5 points beauty
Huge 1/1 in King St district wood floors!
Adorable Historic San Marco Apt
Blocks away from San Marco square
133 E 4th St. #3, Jacksonville, FL 32206
Large and beautiful one bed apartment

If I'm reading correctly - the OP is talking about splitting a $700-800 place with 2 roommates. Robyn

Well - if I were in your position - I wouldn't want to be the only person on the lease - and relying on the 2 roommates to help with the rent. I'd want to be one of the roommates - with my name not on the lease. Perhaps you have a friend here - or can take a drive here - and look at what might be available on the school bulletin board (there may be an online place for this on the school website - look it up and see what you can find). Dont move to the Northside or Arlington.

Personally I would re-think any decision to move to the Jax metro area
