Actually - the place changed the whole original concept. It used to be super casual downstairs - higher end upstairs. That was a big flop. Now the menu is basically somewhat overpriced mediocre Tex-Mex upstairs and downstairs. But - like they say - the view alone is worth the trip. I recall places like the First Street Grill and the Island Grill - old oceanfront restaurants in JAX Beach that were torn down to make way for condos. They were better restaurants than this place. But since we don't have many oceanfront places these days - I'll take what I can get. Robyn

Downtown groups say Jacksonville's core is in crisis, needs a new strategy | jacksonville.com

On another topic......interesting night at the Landing last night. Just another typical vibrant night of excitement.
JB, you do realize that the link you provided agrees with everything I'ver ever said, right.?

Yes, the Downtown core was at somewhat of a cross roads a couple years ago. Which way to go? The Mayoral election, business leaders, and market trends settled that nicely.

I agree with you about the fight at Mavericks (at The Landing) though: wannabe cowboys, country music, and moonshine sometimes don't mix well.

I'm all for banning country music and cowboys.

I wish we had less bashing of each others views on this thread and more of what it originally was intended for. 5 pages of this thread and only 2 "things to do" places mentioned besides the original article of 10.

Differences of opinions on what people's choice of where they decide to live is most likely one of the biggest topic's on this forum.

Some will say if you don't live in the burbs in those cookie cutter Subdivisions with all the amenities then you can not live the good life in Jacksonville.....others swear by downtown's vibrant urban environment as the place to be and those living else where do not have ability to enjoy the cultural and ethnic diversity of downtown Jacksonville.

Bottom line......there is plenty to see and do here in Jacksonville.......you just have to search it out. Unlike cities like say Boston and San Diego where you can just show up downtown and make several days of it, here you have to know where all the places to see are. FSU probably has the best insight of things to see and do downtown. Someone asked about the beaches, there are enough beaches, inlet and coves from Amelia to Saint Augustine to keep you exploring every weekend along with mom and pop restaurants with fantastic food all along the way....we also have several award winning state parks in our area.

Pick up a Folio Weekly and start exploring.......I guarantee you won't spend much time at home on the weekends if you are the exploring type

Yeah I have to agree. As a new resident of Jax I find the list lacking. What would really be helpful is pointing out things that make this city unique. Telling me go see the football team, eat at a restaurant and about a shopping center are all common things anyone can find with a quick google.

Tell me where the best beaches are say that allow dogs, or where I can segway tour, Art Walk, maybe about the painting of the Paws instead of actually going to see the team...etc

I think Treaty Oak is a natural wonder, that should always be visited, but honestly its not exactly set up or promoted like that.
Also that island under the mathews bridge...how many other ciities have an island in the middle of the city like that. It could be an urban camp ground or have a nature trail .Are there any other forts in the metro area other than the one in St Auggy?
