St Johns County school district just reported they have over 1200 new students enrolled for the school year. The largest increases were at Durbin Creek Elementary, Fruit Cove Middle School and Creekside High School. Many people are still moving here in spite of the bad economy. It is one of the rare districts in the country hiring new teachers instead of laying them off .

Which schools? The Palencia elem is the only new one I know of.

PVPV Rawlings is the biggest in the county (population wise). They do have a pretty big campus, but I really hope they plan to build a new school out this way in the near future.

Glad to hear SJC is a growing school system.

Creekside High School added portables this year. They also added several new teachers, but we lost a couple as well. The only problems I've seen or heard of are related to traffic and parking. The first week of school seems to have gone really well. My kids haven't really noticed much difference from last year other than the portables.

Julington Creek Elementary also hired several new teachers. Again, the biggest problem is parent pick-up and traffic. My son rides his bike to school, so we don't have to deal with it. But the line is insane in the afternoon.

I've heard that they are going to redistrict some of the elementary schools in the JCP area. I'm really hoping we aren't affected. I've heard nothing but good things about all the JCP area elementary schools. But we LOVE Julington Creek Elementary!

It's great to hear that our school system is attracting so many people!

according to the JCE principal, their enrollment decreased this year. I'd imagine that the district area for JCE might increase due to that. Especially since Durban Creek brought in the portables this summer.
