Do this first: Go to Tools>Options which opens a dialog box. Then on the Main tab, tell it to Always ask me where to save files (unless you want everything saved to your desktop by default).
I always get these:
Adobe Flash Player
Quicktime (NOT iTunes, JUST Quicktime and I do not put my email address in there)
Shockwave
Java
The rest are optional as far as this is concerned.
I go to the Adobe site to get the reader later if I haven't already downloaded it. And I use IE to get Windows Media Player...M$ downloads play nicer with IE. Liz
Ok, it would only allow Adobe. I check in my programs, it's there...but I still get the yellow bar at the top stating additional plugins are required.
When I am in IE...no problems with any of those only when I'm in FF and that is what frustrated me last time...
Why would a person need a plugin to view City-Data anyhow? Scratch that question...I just looked and some pics in the pet thread for example are showing, some not....*sigh*
Could it be a Windows Vista/FF issue?
Why would it work with IE and not FF?
(**Thanks southernlady for taking the time to help**)
Because those particular plugins are already there with IE. Most people prefer to add what they want with FF.
And yes, it's probably an issue with Vista. I don't have a problem adding the plugins but then I am using XP not Vista. You have to have administrator privileges to get most of this type stuff done and Vista does NOT let go of that. You have to force the issue. With XP, it's pretty much automatic.
You can make yourself an admin with Vista, I just don't know how right off the bat since I don't use it. Liz

You are absolutely right!! I kept getting this prompt telling me that I did not have admin privileges?!.
After further reading about all of this and talking to techs I like my XP so much better than Vista.

Ok, Brian my question to you or anyone else running Vista, how did you get around the admin issue???
The only oddity I've noticed w/ FF compared to IE is that when right clicking to save a file, it takes a lot longer to get started w/ FF than w/ IE. It might take a full minute before the FF download manager shows the file save in progress. With IE, however, the response is much faster.
But that's nowhere enough for me to consider IE over FF.

My account is an Admin account. I never use user accounts. I always found switching user accounts to install stuff a PITA. Windows really needs to implement a Linux style of root admin for password pop ups rather than having to switch users.
I never get any of the security pop ups because I turned it off.
I like Safari way better than Firefox.. Firefox has to many pop ups and asks to many questions..
Install [for free] ABP - Adblock Plus, and such will be minimized if not totally prevented. I have this on both work Wintel and house Mac's. Adblock Plus: Save your time and traffic

Indeed, Safari comes bundled on Mac, but just a FYI for those interested, FF is indeed available and quite usable on Mac - Firefox is all I use on my two Apples.
