I want to start a blog using wordpress but want to use a unique domain name. Wordpress offers a service to register a domain name with them for $15 a year. Is there a better place to register a domain name? Any pros or cons with regard to the various fees and levels of service?

Thanks!

GoDaddy makes a lot of folks happy.

I use DirectNic, out of inertia.

Some folks will tell you to host your domain name with a separate service from your webhost.
Or maybe separately from WordPress.com

http://www.godaddy.com/ is my preferred registrar. Convenient and well put together website and good prices. There are so many registrars out there now though you can hardly turn around without bumping into one.

EDIT: This auto naming of URLs thing is sometimes quite funny, lol.

I now buy all my domanin names from a UK based company, but host my sites (all 7 of them) with a US based hosting company with incredible customer service. Network Solutions is where I got my first domain name from 10 years ago.

I use Netfirms myself because the management panel is very user friendly and the also give you free hosting. I have had excellent results with their customer service and for the price $9.98 per year, I have no reason to go anyplace else.

You may also want consider getting it through your web provider.. as they often include it in the price of hosting.. otherwise godaddy is decent.. coupons for renewals and registration can be found at places like fatwallet/wehostingtalk
