I use it for networking among personal friends, former classmates, etc. I purposely avoid connecting with co-workers on Facebook - especially superiors and subordinates. I like to keep work life and personal life separate.

Same here. Love reconnecting but keep my account locked down so that work folks can't check in. I've politely let coworkers that are friends know that FB is off limits!
Facebook. Naw only use Face2Face with friends. Face2Phone with family and friends. Face2Computer Screen to City-Data friends and also Faceless!
If anyone wants, needs, cares, to know anything else about me they are more than welcome to ask on any of the many communication forms mentioned above.
There are already many ways for someone to steal ones identity and cause harm to someone else without giving them another tool like Facebook IMO.
It's not efficient to maintain communication with dozens of people, who may live hundreds or thousands of miles away, individually. FB allows us to communicate with a large group of people every day in a few minutes and feel like we actually know what's going with their day-to-day lives. It also gives us a taste of what's going on in different parts of the country/world.
FB can be completely locked down if that's what the user prefers. Not sure how identity theft would even be concern.
i am with dansdrive. i would never use it nor let my kids use it.
I'm on FB and my daughter (high schooler) is too. We're "friends" and she knows I monitor her account - and yes I know her password too.
A lot of her friends created myspaces in middle school and their parents didn't have a clue.
When she was in middle school, the big thing was AIM (AOL instant messaging). I didn't like that at all..
Just recently I had business dealings with a father who SWORE his 9th grade daughter didn't have a FB..... later that day I searched his daughter and you guessed it.. not only did she have a FB but she had 300+ friends !
Now I hear of 5th and 6th graders getting facebooks... usually without their parents consent.
