First check the computer's "Network" program or file to make sure you haven't set it to disconnect after a certain amount of inactivity. Also, use a browser and enter the following URL (I will assume that this is the URL for the router):
http://192.168.1.1 (broken link)

That will get you inside the router's setup, security, etc., screens. See if you have selected, "Connect On Demand: Max Idle Time (minutes, etc.). I have that option turned off. Right below "Connect On Demand" there is another option. this one is: "Keep Alive." I selected this option to keep the connection with the ISP going continuously.

To login into the router, the User name is: admin, and if you don't have a password on the router, the password is admin (both the same).

The other possible addresses include:
http://192.168.0.1 (broken link)
http://192.168.1.0 (broken link)
depending on the router.

One of them should work. Liz

What the heck is a "microfilter?" I know computers quite well and don't understand what you are talking about.

lol Synopsis. I'm glad I wasn't the only one "dumbfounded"!

Wellfolks, I can't even get into the network with the IP address. Apparently, hubby, who I specifically said to use "this password" didn't follow my instructions. When I tried to "login" to the network, the password didn't work, much to my chagrin.

Anybody know how I can 'reset' the password? Hopefully the username is "admin" but you never know with him. It's a Linksys. Thanks guys and yes, I am still having internect connection problems. Grrrrrr...

You can usually reset the password by holding the reset button for xx number of seconds. My old router was 10 my new one is 5.

Key in admin and no password: leave it blank.

Check the coax connection at the wall and the modem. Remove each and screw them back on. Know how your TV picture gets lousy when the connections are loose? Depending on how long you've the Internet try a new cable. They do go bad... We had two cables and a splitter replaced and our TV "reacquired" channels we weren't able to receive.

The filter that is driving you nuts is for a DSL connection. It keeps the Internet connection from bleeding static over into the phone conversations. At least that's my understanding. I do know that placing two of them on the same line causes DSL to run at dial-up speeds! That from a client who was very upset about his new connection.
