This seems like it should be obvious, but you never know: when the dog was diagnosed with diabetes did you start insulin injections? The blindness was likely caused by the high sugar levels from the diabetes.

As another poster mentioned, dogs can be placed on a benzodiazepine (Xanax, maybe Ativan if he just needs a short fix for when you leave) to help with the separation anxiety.

Get another dog. Having a buddy to keep him company when you are away will help.

It takes a while for animals to adjust to loosing their vision. But they eventually do just fine.

I will just never understand that this is the first "go to" fix for you two. Having diabetes and being blind are NOT killing offenses...the dog has anxiety. He needs to learn to adjust and that will take time. There have been other suggestions that seem like a good start, but killing a dog for having anxiety is an offensive and cruel thing to do.

How do you know if he's in pain? How do you know anything without knowing the dog, the family or the vet? Good grief, people. Most pet owners know when their pet is in actual physical pain. And they are usually quite aware of the prognosis...

I've had to had two of my pets euthanized...the most horrible thing I've ever been through personally. But I KNEW 100% that it was for the best. I really don't think this scenario deserves this sort of response.

is there any neighbor who is home during the day that would mind your dog for a small fee.

Nobody wants to hear YOUR dog bark. Pay somebody who can dog sit. Your responsibility to shut your dog up!

Why don't you post over in the Dogs subforum? There are a lot of very knowledgeable folks over there who may be able to give you valuable advice. And you probably won't get as many rude and callous replies from people who have limited knowledge on proper care for dogs with needs such as yours.
