Hi everyone, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Sofi. I'm married and we have a beautiful 3 yr old boy & I'm currently pregnant. I was born in Argentina & my husband in Mexico. I've lived in FL all my life & I hate it. My husband has lived a couple years in Indiana. I discussed with my husband that it would be great for us to make a change after I have the baby. Get out of this hell! I hate FL, it's climate. Everything. I'm aware of the climates in Indy, which I have no prob with. The reason why we particularly pick Indiana is because my husband has a daughter there. From a previous relationship..and it would be great for them to spend time and my son & future daughter/son could meet her! She lives in Monrovia..not sure where exactly that's located. But would like a place near..where its family orientated, has jobs, and nice homes for rent that aren't too expensive. Any places you could recommend would be great! My husband and I are both young in our 20s. But we are very calm, friendly people. And we love to try new things. Please let me know as I know NOTHING about Indy. & any tips would be great!! Thanks everyone!

Monrovia is sw of the city. What else are you looking for like nightlife, restaurants? Everything else are a dime a dozen around here.

Plainfield is a nice community with good proximity to Monrovia and all of the conveniences you desire. As for jobs, it depends on the career field.

Being a native Hoosier who has lived for extended periods of time in both Florida and Indiana, I will warn you...

The change back to a seasonal climate with extended periods of no sunlight will take a distinct toll on you. When I moved back to Indiana from Florida a few years ago I had no problem with the seasons, winter, etc. What I DID have problems with was the lack of sunlight during the winter.

There is a documented medical condition known as SAD (seasonal affective disorder) which can occur when you're not exposed to sunlight after being used to it for a long time. I consider myself a very healthy person, both physically and mentally, and I will say that I have never had something affect me as much as the lack of sunlight did.

I did seek medical help and treatment, which did help, but I was really caught off guard by how much this affected me.

Just a heads-up....

Not everyone is afflicted. I know I tire of sunlight sometimes, partly after lenghthy hot and dry periods, and long for an overcast day.

I lived in South Florida many years before moving up here. When it comes to family I would probably check out Plainfield due to easier access to less congested I-70, closer airport entrance, good schools, family water park, reasonable sidewalk layout and Metropolis along with less rush hour traffic (no back ups like I-69). Stay away from Speedway due to racing events like the 500 etc.. I learned the hard way by living near the track. (every year plan to either be stuck at home or get out of the area). Hope some of these tips help.

You would recommend someone avoid Speedway because of traffic two days a year??

That's just my personal preference as everyone is different. Since the OP asked I only speak of what I would do as I use to live in Florida myself and now have family here. Back then I finally moved to the southside because I got tired of dealing with that mess every year (not being able to get home because of blocked off streets and ramps..no thanks) but hey that's just me. I can't speak for the OP but may be they don't like dealing with that kind of traffic or may be they won't mind who knows. Some people live in different parts of the metro for various reasons that may not align to what you and I think would be an ideal location that would suit our specific needs (or wants).

When I moved to Florida I was remarking about how nice the day was on a cool, overcast "winter" day. One of my coworkers thought I was nuts.

It's nice to have the variety, for sure, but the long stretches of gloom and darkness in the winter are what's tough, in my opinion.

I never gave it much thought when I moved back to Indiana, as I figured that since I had grown up there and lived the majority of my life under those conditions the transition would not be that big of a deal. Every time the sun came out I was out soaking it up, even in the depths of winter. It just wasn't enough, unfortunately.

The one negative about the sun is that as a good friend firm the Midwest warned me when I moved to Florida (they had preceded me by a couple of years) that it was like the movie "Groundhog Day" in that every day was like the previous one, since the weather was so consistent.

Very true, but the presence of the sun on a daily basis really makes a difference.
