I live close to South Bend. The only thing I like about Indiana is rent is cheap, if it weren't for that I'd living in San Diego. Perfect climate there.
There are lots of other states that have areas that don't get as hot as Florida and are a little more lively. Oregon has inexpensive areas, mountains, beach, year round camping etc. Some parts of New Mexico and AZ also.

As a Kentuckian who is often in Indiana I appreciate a couple things about Indiana:

1. It's a mostly middle class state without the large gaps between the haves and have nots the is typical of where I live and most Southern states in general. The whole "good side vs bad side of the tracks" thing doesn't exist in most small towns there. In Kentucky most towns have an area with Dallas style McMansions and the other side is dilapidated homes and trailer parks.

2. Of the nicest, friendliest people I've ever known most were from Indiana. For whatever reason they are so much friendlier than people in the Northern states around them. Indiana is where Southern friendliness meets Midwestern practicality.

I havent lived in Indiana in almost 40 years, but what I miss the most are

the best corn and tomatoes in the United States,

Pizza King pizza,

Breaded tenderloin sandwich,

White Castle Hamburgers,

Hoosier Hysteria - the high school boys basketball tournament,

nice friendly trusting reasonable people.

Wow, for a minute, I thought that I was reading a post that I made I feel the exact same way...in addition to Pizza King, I miss the Frozen Custard and Triple XXX.... also Arnies. It has been nearly 41 years since I lived in Indiana. I hope to move back up there when I retire.....soon!

Hi,
Indiana does have a lower cost of living, still has many hot summer days. As far as job is concern it totally depends on your experience in the particular field as well as skill.
