When you are buying an orange do you compare it to an apple?
How many millions people are in the Tampa Bay Area? Comparing that
to 350,000 people in Rkfd area?

FL has that thing you know called the Ocean, do you think the drug lords would choose the nasty Rock River to transport their drugs? No, Rockfordian have to drive down to TX border to get the whole sale.

Why don't you just compare Rkfd to NY city? At least it does snow in NY.

I can tell you this that Rkfd have the worst attitude a person could have; from my experienced living in New Hampshire.

The talk of crime, for example. LOL! People who've lived in Rockford all their life don't know what crime is and have no earthly idea what a gang problem means.
If you look at the statistics (available from City-Data.com) you will note that the violent crime rate (murder, rape, robbery, assault) is higher for Rockford than Tampa, Florida.

Apparently you are wrong.

Default www.familywatchdog.us/

Check out the Family watchdog (National Sex Offender Registry) too, you’ll be surprise of how many offenders are living next to your kids. The whole map practically turns red (red= offense against children) for Rockford.

Actually I'm not.

Rockford:
Murders: 12
Aggrevated assualts: 732

Tampa:
Murders: 41
Aggrevated assualts: 3701

Source FBI...I think i'll take the FBI data over city-data.com

Btw, before you throw out the obvious that Tampa is bigger than Rockford, I only used Tampa stats and did not include St Pete, Clearwater, etc. Tampa pop is 350K.

Again, look at Tampabay.

There is no where you can live here without having more than 100 registered sex offenders within 5 miles. No place!

I wasn't making a comparison for any reason other than to point out how overblown some of the post about Rockford are with repsect to crime, gangs, etc. To read some of these posts you would think the west side of Rockford was some sort of jungle. I wouldn't want to live there but compared to whats out in the world it's hardly a ghetto.

Wow. Seeking "my city has more crime than your city" bragging rights is exquisitely lame.

The crime rate in Rockford may not be as bad as other places. In my opinion the City is run very poorly and very was poorly planned, the leaders continue to make mistakes. The Rock River seems to be the dividing point, West of the river has mostly bad areas and East of the river not as bad. The tax rate is high for what the area has to offer and the roads are one of the worst I have seen. To me Rockford is a welfare City kind of like California is a welfare State. So if you want to be on welfare for life Rockford is one of the best places to live. Where I live sure isnt perfect but I love it as some love living in Rockford, its just not for me. I think you're missing the point, which is simply Rockford may not be an ideal mecca of peace and tranquility but it's hardly the slum some make it out to be.

That said, I moved away and have no intentions of moving back. But, my reasons for leaving and not returning have nothing to do with anything Rockford can fix, like crime, education, etc.

Now if they get rid of the cold and the snow I might reconsider..LOL!

As a side note, my degree from Rockford College has served me pretty well in life. Considering I grew up on the west side, went to Welsh, Roosevelt and West high, that ain't so bad.

I really love cherry valley, I think that Janesville is worse off than Rockford which is pretty bad itself... Cherry Valley is the safest bet with your investment since its a growing community with low taxes and a low crime rate... plus it has everything to offer... places to eat, shop, have fun.... look into it
