Neeshara, you will have a tough time finding a home that is close to Chicago where you will find the conditions you like. I'd be willing to travel a little, if I were you. Maybe try looking into Naperville, it is a long commute but there are excellent private schools out here and Naperville has a lot of mansions, I'm sure you'd be able to find one that is within your mark.
Stay on here long enough and I guarantee you will get annoyed eventually.

What about Hinsdale, Westmint, Clarendon Hills? Lotsa tear-downs, full of rich/upper-income people, good schools, close to Ill Med Ctr.

South Barrington may suit you. Barrington Hills does not have homogenous subdivisions (it consists mainly of unique estate or farm houses on 5 acre properties). South Barrington, however, has several estate subdivisions in your price range w/ very homogenous surroundings. The D220 school district is also excellent and there is a highly educated populace. The commute would be more than 20 miles though. SB is not really my cup of tea as it is just homogeneous subdivisions of big new houses w/ no town center. But it sounds like exactly what you're looking for...

Default Where to buy a house?

The only area that I absolutely know that meets the criteria is Grandview Drive in Peoria Heights, Illinois. Near picture pertect neighborhood that offers homes with a view, Ten miles from the medical community: three hospitals and medical school. Also university, three country clubs, upscale shopping and dining. symphony, theater and more.
