I had friends / relatives / coworkers in Springfield that were basically down there to CELEBRATE the passage of Illinois marriage equality and the reason they came home ANGRY AND UPSET was 100% becuase the DEMOCRATS FROM CHICAGO'S "non liberal" areas split with their leader! So put that in the the campaign ads for the "low information voters!!!

There has never been any legislation in Illinios promoting any kind of "Texas style" anything.

With folks that cannot separate reality from made up Internet memes I think Quinn is guaranteed re-election!

Does ANYBODY READ ANYTHING???

It turns out Peoria DEMOCRAT Jehan Gordon-Booth is probably a bigot

I agree that fiscal responsibility needs to be thrust upon Illinois as soon as possible and that the state would greatly benefit from two-party rule, but I won't vote a bigoted anti-abortion zealot in to a position where he has the power of the governorship.

You know, labeling people who vote differently than you do or don't see eye-to-eye with you as a "brainless voter" is ridiculously insulting, tiptoes on the edge of "name calling," and highlights a strong narromindedness on your part.

Angry Illinois has had terrible poltical results for a reason and the reason is simple!

Would that there are voters with any ability to break free from the brainwashing of non-stop lies in ads.... Combine those voters with the influence of precinct workers that scare low information voters into supporting "the party candidate" and the reason we get Blago and Quinn (and yes Ryan) is quite clear.

Any "consultant" that wants to get Quinn re-elected just needs to read this thread: paint the other candidates as "non-animal loving anti-woman" types and victory is assured!

If that is not relying on EMOTION OVER LOGIC then I don't know what is.

Guys on the GOP side of the aisle could have a decades long record of volunteering at a pet adoption agency and some goof ball will find the one time they took in a rabid beast that had to be put down and the lying ad makers will turn that into heartless destruction of puppies. Similarly they could be the only male in five generations of their family, have nothing but a record of fairness and equality in their legislative background and the lying ad makers will use their support of a guy with a longer record of success for party head as some made-up story of how they're against women leaders...

QUINN WILL BE RE-ELECTED UNLESS PEOPLE CAN GRASP THE VALUE OF VOTING WITH THIER THINKING SELF AND NOT BEING SUCKED IN BY MADE UP ILLOGICAL NONSENSE!

You want to talk about "labeling"? How about we see more LABELING OF THE DEMOCRATS THAT THREW A MONKEY WRENCH INTO MARRIAGE EQUALITY AS THE BIGOTS THEY ARE!

Don't worry, I made sure my reps heard a mouthful and a pageful of anger at the failure of both pension reform and the marriage equality act. I think the lack of action in the legislature has been a disgrace for quite some time.

However, as you are well aware, nobody likes insults, and insinuating that knowledgeable people were somehow sucked into voting Democrat because of brainwashing (as if it isn't truly something that happens across both sides of the aisle) and our mindless inability to buck the system instead of continuing lemming-style over a cliff is downright insulting. If the election were redone today I would STILL not vote for Brady and it is has nothing to do with ads regarding dog euthanasia or whatever the hell tangent this thread has gotten on...Brady's voting record and political stances are very clear, and I cannot fathom ever supporting that kind of candidate to lead this state.

I also don't understand why this Quinn v. Brady argument still marches on. Quinn won more votes. I don't care if he carried 1 county or 1000 counties, he won MORE votes. Can't we move on already?

Folks that vote without thinking deserve what they get. As long as Quinn or any other politician can target voters like that we will be stuck with miserable politics.

Brady was "not my guy" in the primary, but in the general, choosing between somebody who literally turned around his family business from bankruptcy vs a guy that has the longivity of an insect and no desire / ability to do more than take up space...

Chet, those arguments are terrible. Yes, the Democrats in the legislature really screwed up on the gay marriage vote, but putting in a governor with veto power is an entirely different situation.

And you place far too much faith in our supposedly moderate Republican leaders. They've been pushing that forced trans-vaginal ultrasound stuff through everywhere they get a chance to. The people in Wisconsin thought they had moderate Republican leaders as well, and now they have the social conservative crazies in control because they "decided to get tough on finances". As much as I mistrust the Democrats in Illinois, the GOP just CAN'T give up on it's pet social issues anywhere they are in power, and they keep running candidates like Brady in every state because the REASONABLE Republicans get "Primary-ed".

At this point, I plan to vote for a Republican Governor with the assumption that the GOP will get smart and nominate a Topinka-style moderate (and I voted for Topinka before). And I'm not a Republican. But damn, if they try to cram through some social conservative at this CRITICAL MOMENT for gay rights, forget about it. It just affects too many friends and loved ones. And I also worry that Republican candidates will move to the left to win election, but then move right after they are comfortably in office with the advantages of incumbency.

ENJOY ANOTHER FOUR YEARS OF QUINN! Brainless voters ALWAYS fall for the same pile of baloney campaign ads! Same firm that falsely tied Judy Topinka to George Ryan (and mercilessly burned pictures of her hideous mid thigh culottes into the public image...) to give Rod is NO DOUBT creating ads that portray every theoretical Quinn opponent as an "animal hater" and will stop at NOTHING to pluck the emotional strings necessary to show Quinn as a champion of all things WONDERFUL...
I investigated Brady's record and it is shows anti woman agenda. I am not a Democrat at all, more of a Libertarian as I want social services severely curtailed. I would vote for Topinka and I think George Ryan was better than Blagojevich.

But to me animal rights is big. Judy Baar Topinka is an animal lover and yes I would vote for her. You are assuming I voted for Quinn but I didn't vote for him either. The fact is Brady was a horrible choice and I have seen videos of him that horrified me.

Michael Madigan is the one who REALLY needs to go. Has anyone been following the Metra scandal in the Tribune? Disgusting. We can't let his daughter win the Governorship, or this state is really screwed.

... to ever get anyone else elected from his district. You'd need to get some local kid with the good fortune to have parents that match the demographics and maybe experience working at the airport. With about $500K from the right donors and a "good government" message something like "Speak Out Against Corrupt Insiders, Vote for Patricio "Paddy" Doyle, (or maybe Alejandro "A.J" Kolwalkczyk...) State Representative 22nd District". Illinois House Democrats

Lisa is a lot more personally detached from the sorts of horse trading that Mike has done. He is also very much aware of what is legal in Illinois, as he wrote most of the laws governing behavior of state level elected officials. He is too smart to ever get caught suggesting anything directly.
