When you hear the term "open borders" what exactly does that mean?

What are the misconceptions that people have with this term?

Does it really mean that anyone can just enter the U.S without going through any legal process for entering?

Seems like it. Essentially that is what has been happening anyway. We have check points but people are coming over illegally anyway.

A country without borders is not a country.

It means Mitt "Flip Flop" Romney gets to hire additional illegals to work in his mansion.

It perplexes me why so many people hate rich Republicans, who are only striving for a better life.

'open borders' would be the same as walking/driving across the Mexico/U.S. border with no check point as walking/driving along any highway in the U.S. crossing state lines.

Are you sure that's what open borders mean? I mean how do you keep drug smugglers and other criminals from freely entering America if there is no type of legal process that a person has to go through to enter and leave the country?

America and many other countries already have "open borders" in the sense that people in America are free to leave the country and other people are free to enter America under our laws. The only country that actually has closed borders is North Korea. So compared to North Korea I guess most country's borders are "open" but still controlled.

I think many people make the mistake of assumimg that open borders mean that countries will have no laws or restrictions dictating how people can enter and leave a country.

Most countries in Europe 'the EU' are open border. Passports no longer needed to go from country to country.

Obviously over 30 million people have entered the USA and are staying here illegally, no legal process. And they are demanding everything be handed to them as their reward for doing so.

Open borders is exactly what we have now. Anyone can get into the USA easily by having organized criminals associated with the cartels obtain fake and stolen documents, cartel smugglers can get them over in many various ways, they can easily get documents that let them here legally but temporarily but then just stay on and work and do whatever they please because nothing is done with visa overstayers nor with those being smuggled in.

That's right - that's exactly how the cartels easily bring over tons of drugs every day. Very few vehicles at the border are inspected and there are corrupt agents that pass the cartel smugglers through.

The borders are about as open as they could possibly be.

That's why the sentri pass is a complete sham. Once one of the cartels gets a driver with the fast pass they will never get checked.
