‘Tyranny of the minority’: Idaho Supreme Court rules voter initiative law unconstitutional

Quote:
House Minority Leader Ilana Rubel, D-Boise, said Republicans never should have passed the law.

“Elected representatives should be working to protect the people’s constitutional rights, not take those rights away, as the Idaho GOP did here,” Rubel said. “I am very proud that every Democrat voted against this bill because we recognize the importance of citizens’ rights, and we’ll continue to fight for them.”

That's not bad news. I'd guess these smaller groups will integrate fairly well as long as they have jobs. Given the opportunity to work and have a stable community and family life, why wouldn't they work to gain the American dream... to have lazy grandkids that suck off the government's teat.

I can't speak for Twin Falls, but Boise does already have a fairly large refugee population (many Syrians have been resettled in Boise) of new citizens from various countries in the world and they add a lot to the city and have opened shops, restaurants, etc. Boise is an official Welcoming City and they are taken care of here. I bet the refugees have more ambition than many people born in America who are lazy and like to live off of the government.

Any coming into the USA legally are ok, it's the ones coming illegally that bother me and need to be sent back. However, with a southern border wide-open, that will never happen.

I agree many of the mid eastern folks are very creative and hard working. Not coming here for the shear freebies that tend to get put out. Indeed it is those coming across the southern border illegally that are our greatest threat. And now with the Haitians flooding in as well. It's just outrageous. The locals don't want to work so those coming in from the Middle East will likely be glad to take their jobs.

Bullucks. The locals want to work. The transplants have raised the cost of living so high that folks realize that working is a waste of time because they cannot afford to live on the wages the local economy will pay. How can anyone make it with such high rent and such low wages? It’s great for those who moved here. You have money and the means. And the local population does not. They can’t keep up. And yet they are put down because they cannot do what you have managed to do. You move here price them out of their town and call them lazy.

Not sure about all of this and what is going on up in North Idaho, but here in the Boise area there are a lot of jobs in the service industry that need to be filled and many fast food establishments are paying upwards of $15 an hour which is pretty good for fast food.

This isn't a livable wage by any means, but is better than the minimum wage. Also, it is a wrong to assume that locals have just given up on working. The Boise area job market has really taken off the past 10 years and there are more higher paying jobs and an extremely low unemployment rate. The State Employment office here in Boise is saying that many people have moved on to better paying jobs and not going back to the service jobs, and yes these are "locals" whatever that means anymore...anyone in Idaho is a local after they move here.

I do not agree with you that "the local population does not". Growth has been great for some areas of the state and probably moreso in Boise than anywhere else because of the new job opportunities. Yes, housing prices are crazy, but part of being an responsible American is working to get by, not just giving up because people are moving in to the state.

What are these locals doing in North Idaho who don't want to work? Living off the government?

Wow. An Idaho hunter, Raymond Jones, has been missing for 53 years, and his remains have finally been found near Salmon.

It's ironic that one bowhunter would find another bowhunter 53 years later.
