Frustrating, because in typical fashion we have a highway interchange that does not meet the current needs, and now we are going to have much more development in that area with no ability to expand.
I'm sure ALDOT will take care of our needs ....

And it was just finished 2 or 3 years ago.

There's a plan to widen 565 between (basically) County Line Rd and Wall Triana, I think in FY 2024 (which means 2030 at the earliest ). This is the part that narrows from 3 to 2 lanes each way, then back to 3 again. It'll be interesting to see what the improvements will be. It's a fairly expensive budget item for a 2 mile or so stretch.

The number of apartments being built in this area is staggering.

The support piers and the exit ramp west of County Line may have to be reconfigured. Also may be some adjustment for the exit ramp to Huntsville International.

As noted, the biggest issue with widening that particular section of I-565 is the supports for the flyover ramp for the eastbound exit ramp to County Line Road. The hammerheads are aligned with the flyover rather than with the roadway underneath. This prevents an additional lane from being added to the inside or outside or by adding to both sides.

With a little forward thinking this issue could've been addressed when the flyover ramp was closed for half a year or more when ALDOT added the westbound ingress/egress ramps and eastbound ingress ramp at County Line Road. For whatever reason we don't get that type of efficiency of thought on road projects in this area. Instead, ALDOT will have to close that exit and rebuild the piers or leave the exit open and rebuild the entire flyover.

If you look at the attached image, you can clearly see that the concrete supports at the top of the piers are in conflict with any widening of the road.

Gonna guess that they'll have to build new piers near the present ones, and once that's finished, remove the present ones. And If possible, it'd be nice if they're built wide enough for 8 lanes - even now, 565 outbound in the evening rush is very slow or at a standstill in the part that was recenty widened. And that's with most of the workers on the Arsenal, and some contractors on the periphery, not being back in the office yet.
