The Scruggs Community Center at 600 Davis Cir SW, Huntsville, AL 35801 has been demolished and hauled away. This is south of the AC Hotel. Part of the CityCentre development?

Correct, currently there is a hotel planned although an office building has also been a possibility.

How many additional downtown hotels is that? We have the Curio and Hampton under construction; a Marriott across from the VBC where part of the parking garage is; Hyatt House across from the current federal courthouse; and one possible across Clinton from the Hampton. That's 5, so would this one be a 6th?

Suppose so, idea to spread the variety instead of a couple large hotels.
This improves all areas of downtown.

I live in the landing path of the Huntsville International Airport, and I often see Atlas Airlines' 747 freighters coming into the airport. Sometimes I see as many as three 747's on the ground, and they unload and leave in 2-3 hours.

Some come from Mexico and go on to Europe. Some come from Singapore and stop in Anchorage on their way here. Those airplanes are flying some mega mile routes, and they're heavily used.

Does anyone know what kind of items they're carrying into Huntsville? Anything interesting?

Bids being requested for the demolition(older portion) and construction of the new parking garage across from the VBC on Monroe St. This is part of the new Autograph hotel adjacent and overlooking Big Spring Park. 5 Levels, 725 spaces.

It would be nice if they included upper level exits on the VBC side, in both the new part and the old part, in this contract. As it is, you park on the 3rd or 4th level, have to walk away from the VBC, go down, then walk back toward the Center. That's a lot of extra walking for those who have difficulty walking, and of course, there is a terrible lack of handicapped parking near the entrances.

What would be really nice would be a pedestrian bridge over Monroe from the second level so they don't have to stop traffic for people to cross the street.

Bingo, the problem is where would it connect to the VBC. I thought with the newest expansion provisions would have been made for a later added bridge. Guess it still can but would probably be a city project.
Its not a new or forgotten idea, it has been mentioned ever since the garage was built.
