there probably won't be a second hotel, an office building instead. But this part of the project has changed many times so we will see. Looks like hotels are now gonna be focused on the north side of the VBC, with at least two on Clinton. After all finished will have a good balance of locations convenient to different areas of downtown.

Right. I wish we could get more tourism things like Ripleys or an Aquarium. We’ll have a good amount of restaurants, hotels and shops will come soon.

Blue Origin ready to start construction of engine plant

Blue Origin, the commercial rocket company founded by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, will break ground Friday on a promised plant to produce its new, next-generation rocket engine.
The plant to be located in Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park will manufacture Blue Origin’s BE-4 engine, which will power the next generation of rockets produced by United Launch Alliance in Decatur.
The plant will have about 340 employees and cost $200 million to construct, the company said when making the original announcement.

I drove by the spot yesterday and noticed they were erecting a large canopy. I assume now that it is connected with the scheduled ground breaking.

I know Stovehouse will eventually be a vibrant hub but the fact that the front doesn’t face Governers Dr bothers me a little lol It’s hard to see the construction. It’ll be similar to Lowe Mill where you have to drive into it to see it fully.

I drove by there a little after 11 this morning, and the parking lot was quite full. Don't know if they were from lunch customers or construction workers.

Rocket Development Partners, Inc., has control of the 13-acre site known locally as “the Coca-Cola bottling plant” site, company spokesman and principal Dan Shields said today. It is one of the largest remaining open pieces of land in or around downtown, city officials confirmed.

Shields said a new hotel is part of the plan and that “numerous” hotel developers are interested in the site. “This hotel would complement the VBC and not compete with space in its existing or planned expansion while creating the ‘Clinton Gateway’ envisioned in (the city’s) master plan,” he said.
Shields said the development would fit in with the city’s master plan for downtown, and the developers have hired the same company that did the plan, Urban Design Associates, to help design the project. Shields said the company has also hired Matheny Goldmon architects of Huntsville, and architect Paul Matheny confirmed the partnership today.

Development booming in downtown Huntsville; more projects coming

The city is also planning a renovation of Pinhook Creek which borders one side of the property with walkways, greenways and bikeways.
Mitch Rutter, a member of the executive Rocket Development Partners
"The project will be complimentary to downtown, Rutter stressed. It will be a mixed use development that will be heavy on residential with work space downstairs.
“There will be apartments. Residents will be able to live in a loft-like setting and work at home and then go to some sort of gallery space downstairs. We’re going to coordinate with art experts and local artists and musicians. It will fit with the new music venue going in at the Von Braun Center,” Rutter explained.

There will be a parking component and some retail space. There will also be office space for companies at Research Park or on Redstone Arsenal who want a satellite location for recruiting, etc. There will also be incubator space for up and coming companies.
The whole space will be modeled after The Gulch area of Nashville, an upscale neighborhood known for its chic hotels, high-end fashion boutiques and trendsetting restaurants.

“This is a long term commitment. We’re not looking to build and sell. This is a project that's going to be done in phases over a 10 year period,” Rutter stated.

There is a parcel designated for a hotel that Rocket Development Partners will not be building or operating.
“We are fielding inquiries from hotel operators who feel that being directly opposite the VBC would be a good opportunity for them. It should be able to provide conference services, but we don't want it to compete with the new ballroom being built at the VBC,” Rutter added.
