The city council at Thursday night's meeting unanimously approved a project development agreement to bring a Curio by Hilton hotel that will be constructed near the courthouse square.
Shane Davis, director of economic and urban development for the city, said in a brief presentation to the council that the hotel will be located at 106 Jefferson Street - between Clinton Avenue and the courthouse square.
The hotel - a $30 million investment -- will have 100 rooms with a rooftop bar, full-service restaurant and meeting space.
Construction will begin in March 2019 and the hotel will be open no later than February 2020.
The future site of the hotel is currently a boarded-up building behind a chain-link sidewalk fence on Jefferson Street. The site is the former home of Hale Brothers Furniture but has been closed for years.

Finally a nice hotel actually in the downtown area. We have been needing one in that area for years. I am looking forward to trying it out.

Data centers simply house large numbers of computers, for Facebook, it is to service their customers looking at their info feeds. (And to insert the ads that pay the bills.)

The long tem jobs will be for maintaining the computers, the networks and the power and cooling equipment for that hardware.

Rumor is Another Broken Egg will open its third Huntsville area location downtown at Twickenham Square.
Locating in the recently vacated Chocolate Bar site, directly across from Cajun Steamer. This should be an excellent addition downtown.

It doesn't seem like average Huntsville resident will get much use out of this bridge.

So Chocolate Bar went out of business?........shocker lol I was wondering how long it would take. I am not a big fan of Another Broken Egg but it will most likely do very well in that location.

I believe it's purpose is to provide walking access to Lowe Mill from downtown. Which I'd agree is useful with them trying to make Down Town more of a social space now. Now they'll need another bridge taking you from Lowe Mill to the Stove House!

It would most likely become the most used greenway in the city.
All dependent on being awarded a TIGER Grant. The deadline to submit an application for the FY 2018 BUILD Transportation Discretionary Grants program is July 19, 2018.
This I believe is Huntsville's third attempt. There is a lot of competition for these grants.
