Well Galveston's locals can be a real pain sometimes but on the subject of casinos, you can actually see they do have a point.

That's because people rely too much on the reputation of Las Vegas; Galveston isn't Vegas. The city has other sectors for economic revenue outside of tourism. You have the Port of Galveston, a growing medicine sector, Finance and located within a huge metropolitan area. It's crazy to think gambling could ruin the city. Growing in tourism will attract attention and business to the area.

I still say Galveston would be the place that deserves them the most, if Texas were to legalize gambling. Galveston and select Indian tribes. MAYBE San Anotnio, but not Houston, Dallas, or Austin. Those three cities already have enough entertainment, tourism, and job diversity w/o a casino. This is coming form a Louisiana resident.

This is the 1st paragraph of a huffington post article.

The opening of casinos in Ohio this spring means the luck is running out for neighboring states that have pulled in an estimated $1 billion each year from gamblers who've been crossing the border to wager at riverboats in Indiana, gaming tables in Michigan and casinos in western Pennsylvania.

Ohio Casinos' Opening Cutting Into Winnings For Neighboring States

How many millions if not billions is the state of Texas missing out on?

Rick Perry should know that, since he gets a 10% commission.
