I am looking to get a boxer puppy this summer from a reputable breeder. Any boxer fans who can put me in touch with someone in the area?

We went through this process for a while. There are very few Boxer breeders in Houston, but if you get in touch with Sil McCall at Lonestar Boxer Rescue, she can get you in touch with reputable show breeders in the area (Dallas, San Antonio, Louisiana, etc..).

We got our Boxer from Sixes Boxers in Oregon because we decided that we wanted a UK pedigree Boxer which is slightly different from the US breed.

Here is Sedric, our boys Sire. Gorgeous dog.

Faerdorn Global Traveller

The other breeder we looked into the most was Ivylane Boxers in Louisiana. They had some beautiful US Boxers, and we talked with them multiple times before deciding to go with a UK Boxer. Ray and Tina both show a lot of Boxers and are in touch with everyone in this area who breeds, shows, etc...

I have noticed since being here that Boxers do look different to UK Boxers

Check the AKC Breeders Listing. There are more BYB's than reputable, so beware! Don't be afraid to ask questions, ask for paperwork and references and make sure Dam and Sire have all their certifications.

I'm surprised (and happy) that you've gotten so much help. I've gotten the feeling over the last few years that people who don't get the mutt from the homeless shelter are seen as the bane of society at the dog parks.

Personally, I've always felt that if you're going to invest 15 years of your life raising and bonding with a new member of your family, you better know what you're getting, and getting exactly what you want. Glad to see that some other people still feel the same!

I'm all for folks who rescue dogs from shelters, but there is nothing wrong about purchasing a pup from a well regarded, professional breeder. It's the backyard breeders and puppy mills who are the ones to blame with the overpopulation of strays. If I did not have a young child in the house I would be more willing to take a chance on a rescue dog, but in this case I want to know what I am getting.
