All this humidity blasting makes me smirk. I too have lived in Houston for decades and thought I hated the humidity as well. Then I traveled to places like Las Vegas, Phoenix and Santa Fe where there is virtually no humidity. My eyes dried out like raisins, I had frequent nose bleeds from dried out sinuses and my skin felt like tanned leather. Say what you will, the humidty performs a valuable hydration function. When returning from one of those places I can hardly wait to step outside the minute I land at the airport - it's like dropping a dried out sponge in a bowl of water. The older you get the more you appreciate the role that humidity plays in keeping your skin/eyes/sinuses hydrated. We're not the most air conditioned city in the WORLD for nuthin'...

LOL!!!!! All you have to do is take a bottle of saline solution to squirt up the nasal passages.....a bottle of natural tears....and a nice big bottle of hand lotion/moisturizer the next time you go! It will take care of all that very nicely!

Since I live in a low-humidity area, none of the places you mention bother me...but I'd rather have to moisturize than try to get away from the humidity that hangs like a heavy blanket over everything.

The cloying stickiness, frizzy hair, never feeling clean, no matter how many showers one takes....nooooo thanks!!!

:-)

You hate humidty, but you love NC?

Isn't NC as humid as the rest of the south....MS, AL, et al???

Sorry but I don't have either the time or the inclination to squirt saline, drip eye drops or pump hand lotion all day. Also, using moisturizer isn't really going to keep you sufficiently lubricated to be able to lie about your age...and I do.

No, the area I want to move to in the mountains is soooo nice and COOL. The humdity is very low and highs in summer are about 80, may 85 and at night in the summer it's about 55 or 58. Now that's my way to spend summer. It is humid in part of N.C. away from the mountains.

I lived in Houston for ~30 years and have now lived in Huntsville AL for about 8 years. There is no comparison between the humidity in Houston and in Huntsville. Yes, there is humidity in Huntsville but it is only June thru Aug and even then it is not everyday oppressive like it is in Houston. Now in September, it is getting down into the 50's many nights and the humidity is around 45%. I have noted to other people that I use a/c about 4 months of year, heat about 4 months, and nothing but open windows the other 4 (2 in spring and 2 in fall). Yes, there is an actual noticable spring and fall here in N Alabama.

Well, you'll be quite happy to live where you are, then!

The only way to get out of the humidity in Houston is to stay indoors.

Even then, shoes/clothes/whatever mold in the closet.

Actually although I have happily lived in Houston for decades with no real problems dealing with the humidity, I am planning to leave in just a couple of years to get away from the traffic. We are moving to Raleigh, NC because I can't stand spending my life stuck in snail's pace traffic which gets worse by the day. As for clothes molding in the closet, I have never experienced that problem and have lived in six different houses and several apartment since first moving here in 1960.
