I went to A Brasserie Max and Julie on Montrose near Herman Memorial Park for my birthday and was enchanted by the food, wine and ambiance. Personally I don't think dining gets any finer than this experience.

Both Rabelais and M&J are outstanding. One of the restaurant experiences my wife and I do miss from Houston was Friday nights at Cafe Rabelais. Outstanding wine selection and absolutely fantastic French food at a very reasonable price (we'd routinely do five courses with two bottles of wine, tax and tip for $150 -- for both of us). Highly, highly recommend.

Try not to sit on the wall that the menu is on or the a/c will blow on you the entire meal.

You know, I truly want to like Mark's because everyone does and just raves about it. The two or three times I have gone, I just didn't find it to be all that and found the atmosphere a bit pretentious. I found other fine dining establishments that I thought better in both food and atmosphere. That isn't saying it is bad - everyone loves it, so it can't be -- it just wasn't all that for me.

Too bad Brennans is not around anymore. Wonder when they will rebuild again. Is Vargos still around? I had good experiences there with the food, but that was like 8 yrs ago. Not sure how it is like now.

Mark's is delicious. Pappa's Steakhouse, Brenner's, Masraff's, Chez Nous in Humble...

I miss the good old days of Cafe Annie, Brennan's, Hunan on Post Oak, Rainbow Lodge, Maxim's, Confederate House, Vargo's, La Tour D'Argent...restaurants are just not the same anymore.

There was nothing better than a Sunday brunch at Brennan's. Damn that Ike!

Trulucks. That's my favorite these days.

Lizzy, I love Brenners out this way. Incredible service and food. Kinda tucked away next to grungy areas. But that's Houston for you

Brennans should be reopening again very soon - I believe before Christmas.
