Methinks you're right... Very nice-looking building. Given that Houston doesn't saddle property owners with landmark status (requiring maintenance, while preventing alteration or demolition for redevelopment) for notable buildings, it's good that the new owners have found a non-commercial use for the property that doesn't involve tearing down the building. I've seen a Jewish temple in New Jersey that was converted into a mosque. Another beautiful building saved from destruction. From what I could tell, all they did was remove the Stars of David, and add various Koranic verses on plaques.

Thank you so much for sharing those photos, OP. My first trip (oil exploration) to an Islamic country was to Petaling Jaya, Malaysia where they have a spectacularly beautiful mosque (I'll try to paste below) built by the sultan of the province. I knew nothing about Islam and wandered into the main temple room where quickly some of the locals in charge politely asked me if I was a believer in Allah (I said sure, isn't God Allah?), then in Mohammed's teachings (well, huh, noo) as was escorted out after just getting a 2 second glimpse.
Ever since that I've always wanted to know what the main worship room of a major mosque looked like. I've walked past this one in the CBD of Houston many many times since I'm now office-bound downtown and never dreampt it was that spectacular. Good job. I hope you don't get into trouble letting so many infidels gaze upon its celestial beauty! :-)

This one looks like it was modeled upon the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul (Constantinople prior to Ottoman conquest), which was built (excluding the four Islamic towers, which were added after the Muslim conquest, of course) in the 6th century:
Interestingly enough, the Hagia Sophia had been closed for a couple of centuries due to earthquake damage, before Muslim conquest led to a wholesale renovation and restoration.
