I am looking for the best community for a young family. Commute time to downtown (Texas St) is very important as is safety. Any advice among these communities would be appreciated!

Interesting choices. School district seems not to be an important criteria.

Champions and Memorial Forest do not have many young kids IMO. Not a very good commute either.
Try Pearland or Sugar Land

Fall Creek will have one of the better commute times - about 30 minutes to downtown. I live in the NE area (Humble) and I love it up here. Schools are decent (my child is only 3, so I haven't dealt with it personally yet). Safety...well you can walk around at night and not be worried. This is Houston, so crime is everywhere. But major murders, car jackings, break-ins and such are not a part of the nightly news here if that's what you mean by safety. I go jogging in my neighborhood at 4:30am with my dog, and don't feel scared (I am a 30-something year old woman).

Memorial Northwest and Champion Forest have great schools, but a lousy commute.

Just re-read my post....I didn't mean it to come out "major murders"!! No murder is minor. I meant "major" crime in general...just so there's no confusion!!

Fall Creek is great. The new elementary school is great and the commute is almost unbeatable. There are lots of young families and kids in Fall Creek. The community is very active. Let me know if you have any specific questions and I'll be happy to help.

I just think the worst part of the Champions Forest commute to downtown is just getting to I-45.

I hit the NE side of town along 59, to leave Houston, almost every weekend and the traffic is almost nothing. In fact I use the Beltway and go past 45 in order to use 59.

Of these four you list, I'd say Fall Creek.

Champion Forest has more of an aging population (its heyday with kids was a few decades back) and you'd have to deal with the mess that is FM 1960. And a tough commute. Same with the commute for Memorial Northwest.

You might also check out Friendswood.
