I am moving to Houston in about two weeks. Just found out about it a few days ago... the problem is that I have never been there
I am trying to find an apartment...

I would like to live in a fairly new and nice neighborhood. I am 28 and so would like to find a place where young people reside.

Any recommendations will be appreciated! Please let me know what area is worth looking into and which ones I should stay away from.

Thanks in advance!!!

What is your price range? Midtown is typically a good place to start, if you are looking for a relatively concentrated area of young professionals.

Where will you be working? Commute can be a real problem.

Will work out of home a lot too, so I am not too worried about the commute. I am just really afraid of ending up in a bad neighborhood or in the middle of nowhere.
Thanks!

Midtown, Washington Avenue, Galleria areas all have a lot going on. Also you might check Montrose, like some independent places (not the big complexes). You could probably find a garage apartment or a place in a four-plex for $750, and Montrose is lots of fun. The advantage of a big apartment complex is that there's usually a pool and maybe even a gym, and repairs are handled more reliably. But you might find more character (good or bad!) with a private rental.

Mid-town or Montrose best for young folks looking for moderate "urban adventure" near the museums, clubs, Herman Park and Zoo (fabulous!). Like any region of Houston your lifestyle is somewhat hit 'n miss dependent on whether you are in an apartment with good or awful neighbors and manager. Try for a short term lease (6 month) or even week to week or month to month just so you can make sure you don't get stuck in a poor choice for complex or neighborhood. When I moved to Houston I stayed at a Skyland Apts with cheap furnished apts on week to week. There's one right in the Montrose to MidTown transition.
