Has anyone been out to see this development? Does anyone think this will be a flop just like Bayou Place?

It looks like a ghost town with many of the retail spaces for lease.

We went last weekend, after having lunch at Discovery Green. I don't think it will be a flop, but I do think it will take a while to realize its full potential given the economic malaise we are starting to go through.

When Bayou Place was developed (at least the initial phase), downtown was a different place. Now there is rail, more housing, a large new urban park, a new upscale highrise apartment, and a number of hotels (business people and convention goers) all within a very short walk. Houstonians are also rediscovering the urban core, which is something that they (we) weren't ready to do with Bayou Place.

These factors should give Pavilions a leg up, which it will need to compete with Rice Village and (to a lesser extent) the Galleria. Pavilions is well-designed and has a cool Miami/LA feel inside. I like it and look forward to seeing what opens up there.

Haven't seen it yet but people are raving about HOB.

Bayou Place isn't a flop. It will have ups and downs. Part of the problem more recently is that too many clubs in that part of downtown started catering to the hip-hop/gangsta scene, and people who used to frequent many of the other clubs/bars don't care to be around that and have moved on elsewhere such as Washington St and warehouse district.

What I would really like to see at Bayou Place, is for Angelika to transform itself into something like the Alamo Drafthouse, or an upscale movie theater with drinks and food, and perhaps only open to the over-18 crowd. Perhaps now is not the time to be charging $15 for a movie ticket, LOL, but downtown is geared towards 20- and 30-somthings with money to spend, and I think that an upscale movie theater would fit that nicely.

I cannot wait for Lucky Strike to open in the Pavilions.

I go to Bayou Place all the time. It's no flop. The Angelica Flim Center is awesome there and The Verizon Theater is a great place to see a concert. It's one of my favorite places to go Downtown.

I'd pay $15 for a movie ticket if no under 21's were allowed in the building.

Angelika closed. Love the Pavilions - hope it makes it. HOB should make it. Had lunch there - grilled chicken salad - manager comped the meal because I bit into raw chicken - so had a bad first experience but will give it a second chance.
