You might wanan call them and ask them if it can be done by mail. When Itransfered my title, I could do it by mail.

Btw, they told me that I'll have to wait 3-6 weeks to get my ID

The downtown office is actually a Dept of Transportation, on 1001 Preston St. However, they don't do licensing. They do titles, registration and plates.

Surprisingly, it took me only 30 minutes during lunchbreak at the office on Grant near 249. This was on a Wednesday two weeks ago.

The downside is that it's far outside. Was 30 miles from my place, but there were only 3 people there, so it was totally worth it.
I told you so

I finally got my new driver liscense today Well, took 2.5 weeks. Coulda been worse, I guess.
Gotta get used to the new look of it too. It's pretty thin now and not as heavy as old one.

And I look ****ty in that picture again. That's not even funny

Mine took 3 weeks to arrive and I agree the new look is a bit odd, thankfully my picture is just as great looking on this one as the previous.

You seem to have forgotten to thank me for the Katy DPS tip but I won't hold it against you.

I think it is insane that there are zero DPS offices inside the loop of the largest city in Texas. And with the Dacoma office closed, the closest is off of I10 and West Belt. 2-1/2 hour wait in line to renew license, not including the 45 minute drive each way since can't leave work early.

Are other cities as lacking in accessible DPS offices?

I'd also like to know about this, DPS are total scum for closing Katy because I bet it has screwed the Katy Veterans Museum as well which was the most interesting slice of history I've seen in the Houston area.
