Suggestions on where a couple with no kids at home would enjoy living. Working in SW Houston around 59 and 6. Ok I know I post alot with questions about Sugar Land Katy Etc, but where would you live if in our situation. I am very concerned about planned areas with lots of kids on the block. Like kids just at the stage of life would enjoy other things.

Price point no more than 225.

What EA said about Idlywood. I agree there's some real upward potential there.

Garden Oaks. The Heights. Timbergrove...etc. Stay clear of the vertical townhouse ghettos though. Get a real house (with a yard).

All of these suggestions would put your commute going in the opposite of rush hour traffic....

You also asked about patio homes in a previous post - that would be a good way to go.

Good luck!

I would at first try living in an inexpensive apartment in a reasonably safe area. I don't know what Sunnyside is like at night, but I am wondering if there is a way to live in a reasonably safe manner in the Sunnyside area.

Montrose. You can still find an apartment for ~$500/mo, and you're in the middle of everything. You can even do Midtown stuff without paying Midtown rent.

I would consider the Museum District or midtown. You can get to 59 quickly from either and they are fun neighborhoods with a range of choices in housing. If you want to be closer to work, Galleria area. Just be careful of where exactly you are in the Galleria area so you don't have to deal with too much traffic. Wherever you consider, test your commute for a few days in a row.

I disagree that you can find a decent apartment in Montrose for under $500. I lived in a few apartments there several years ago and never found anything close to that. The closest (and this was five years ago) was a one-bedroom carriage house, very cute but very poorly maintained, and it was $700/month.

I never mentioned the word "decent" or any such descriptive, and I meant "around $500" not "under." I saw a listing for an efficiency on Richmond(?) for $450 just a couple months ago.
