Oh student, you are so spoiled. I have friends that sit on a train for well over an hour to go work in NYC, DC, or SF; simply to avoid sitting in traffic for double that amount. 45 minutes is not all that long.

See, I wouldn't call that a short drive. 35-40 minutes would be considered "a drive." 20 minutes is "a bit of a drive." Anything under 15 minutes is a short drive to me. Just wanted to stress that it's all relative.

At any rate, sounds like you're settling into Texas nicely. You're already speaking in minutes, not in miles.

My commute tonight was 80 minutes. That was too long!

We have (my family + friends over the years) always said ''allow 30 minutes to get anywhere around Houston.'' That technically means 20-40 minutes. Anything under 20 is a short drive. Anything over 40 is a long drive. I'm pretty sure that applies today even.

It took me a quick trip of only an hour to get from the Woodlands to downtown Houston!

How come? traffic? Get someone to come with so that you can use the HOV

haha you people think a 20 minute drive is a short drive?!? I call that a drive, and will only go out that far if I completely have to. I go down to UH if there's something completely urgent and while I'm down there I visit my friends so I dont have to go home and go back lol. UH to my house is hardly a 30-40 min. drive.

Heck, the other day I had to run an errand(return some things), but I put it off until last night so when I was going out to watch the game I could just drop it off. Why? Because I dont have time nor the patience to sit in a car for that long. I think twice before I have to go down Kroger, I ask myself "can I live with out for today?" lol.

Anything over 30 min. is a long Drive
10-30 is a drive
<10 is a short drive

10 minutes is a quick drive. If it takes more than 20 minutes, it's a "drive done with an eyeroll." Over 30 I will put it off forever. 45 or more it's not going to get done....ever. Over an hour I better be leaving town for the weekend.

Semantics. If it's in Montrose or Midtown, I walk or cab it. If it's inside the loop, it's a short drive. If it's outside the loop, first I should ask myself, why in the world am I going there? Second, it is almost always to the airport, which I consider a long drive, even with the Hardy Toll Road. If it is outside of the beltway and not to the airport, I bring provisions!!!

Because I foolishly experimented with taking 59 all the way to 99 rather than exit at University to go through Telfair. I won't be making that mistake again. The traffic mess on that last stretch of 59 added 20 extra minutes.
