I also recommend petfinder.com. They basically combine all the shelters into one searchable database.

I'll be in Texas in less than 2 weeks and getting ready for my new life in Houston.

One of my top things to do is to buy or adopt a dog.

Any places where I can purchase or adopt a Chihuahua, pug, Daschund, Boston Terrier?

Thanks!
Petsmart also does adoptions. You can call one near where you'll be living to see when they have their adoption days. Or you can go to the website and enter in your criteria and see what is available in the area. It looks like they have plenty of each breed that you're interested in both in and near Houston.

PLEASE first consider ADOPTING a dog at such places as Houston SPCA. There are also breed specific rescue places for dogs such as Boston terriers.

Just do a Google search (houston boston terrier, for example).

The minute you walk into the shelter area the animals know you're there to possibly rescue them from their ****ty cages. They win you over with their antics like paw scratches, meows, whines, etc... It's only when you take them home and spend a week living with them when you suddenly realize exactly why they were donated to the kill shelter in the first place.

That's how the story sorta goes with my wife's little dog. Nearly feral outta the box - mouse killer, escape artist, car chaser, small bladder, etc. The only dog to ever give me true puncture wounds, too. It took almost 2 years for her to finally stop being scared of anyone with an adult male voice. We almost gave her back a few times, but patience prevailed, and now she's a part of the family. We can forgive her traces of skittishness, because it's apparent she was literally thrown around by her hind quarters by her past owners.

If petfinder.com doesn't mention it, then I would drive out to Special Pals, which is a no-kill shelter. I got my dog from there some 10 years ago.
