One of the things I miss the most about Venezuela is to eat fish at a restaurant by the water knowing that the fish was caught that same day.
Sometimes you even see the fishermen coming back after a day of work.

That is why I love 3rd world countries

Labor is cheap so everything involving labor is cheap.

But you can not earn alot in 3rd world countries so that is why we are here

I went there yesterday

Spoke to the manager and he said they rarely have fresh fish on retail and the fresh fish is sold to restaurants

So no luck there

No thanks. Obviously, though, a lot of people have a different opinion, because there's no shortage of people who love to fish.
In Galveston and Trinity Bays alone you can catch plenty of flounder, blue crab and red fish...

Just make sure you know where the fish are coming from. The offshore fish (the majority of fish), no worries.. The ones from Galveston Bay.. be careful.

I went to the stores under the Kemah bridge yesterday

So there are 2 big stores right on the street and I choose the one behind a smaller one I forgot the name

Anyway I asked the guy working there, several times, if the fish are fresh, are they ever frozen, are they farm or wild?

I asked this probably 5 times and he and the owner replied back as no these are all wild from gulf of mexico never frozen

So I bought golden pompano and striped sea bass. They were all iced not frozen

But that does not mean they were not previously frozen. Also the golden pompano looks exactly like the farmed one from China

I will bbq today and let you guys know. (If I don't die from food poisoning that is)

Okay so I did the bbq, striped bass and golden pompano was really fresh I can tell they were never frozen

But the taste was not there. I am a fan of golden pompano and this golden pompano has a different texture inside than the one farmed and imported from China. It tastes good enough and cost 3.49/lb vs farmed china is 3.99 everywhere

Striped bass is white meat I liked it but the meat was not tough like it supposed to be it is kinda loose texture. My wife did not like it, I was okay and my son gobbled up all of it.

I saw red snapper not frozen fresh when I was there. It is smaller than the ones sold in HEB and Costco and it looked really fresh and live red color, I will buying that next time

The reason golden pompano was just okay not superb is I guess because it is from gulf of mexico warm water. The oiler the fish the tastier. That is why norwegian saba which is the best alternative I have eaten has this distinct heavy oily taste and the color is screaming like I am from deep antarctica.

Blue Horizon off Bissonnett near Kirby. New store that I've heard has good fish.
