I think the commute to work and expensive houses are two of the main reasons we are looking to move. We just seem to be running all the time here. We both work and it is tough. I just think there must be something better somewhere else.

You will be impressed. You will also be somewhat shell shocked by the traffic. It's worse than NY/NJ. It's hard to believe but it's true. Traffic is horrific. My partner lived his entire life on Long Island, where traffic is bad enough but was astounded by the traffic when we first arrived and at first didn't think he'd be able to find his way around and endure the traffic. That's gotten alot better already. It's relatively easy to find your way around once you realize how the highways are laid out, etc. Just study a map for a while and it's easy to figure out. Google maps and drections help alot too.

We've been here for almost two weeks now and absolutely love it. We live in Tomball. Other than all the construction happening here it's perfect. My only suggestion to anyone comtemplating a move here is to be sure and try and find a place to live relatively close to where you will be working or vice versa. The tolls can be hefty as well. Get an EZ Tag, you'll save an enormous amount of time and aggravation. Make the move. It's definitely worth it. I have already all but forgotten NY. I lived there the last 4 years and hated it. Texas is a wonderful place to live. The people are amazing. Just very nice people. The weather is great. We've been wearing shorts every day except the last 2, when it's been raining and chilly out. Good luck

thank you Jeffisok. Yes I have to mapquest a lot of areas before we leave to make it easy on us. Too bad we don't own a laptop, that would have helped.
I want to be able to go to the neighborhoods within 35 minutes of the city.

We moved here almost 6 months ago (from Central PA) and love it. As others have said, traffic is probably the worst you will experience in any city, especially if you are commuting on 290. If you are a true authentic Italian pizza/sandwich person, you will not find a decent shop in Houston!

The Residence Inn staff and I became pretty good friends over the years in Sugar Land, 59, just before the beltway...across from The Fountains shopping center.

Don't stay at their Courtyard if you want to get any sleep

There is a new springhill suites by marriott near the Katy Mills Mall. I agree with spending a couple of nights in each location too -- that's a great idea.

Boy are you right. I commute every day to 34th St. In Houston and It's a breeze Down the Tomball Parkway to the Tollway and then I hit The NW Freeway (290) and BANG, Congestion. And I usually do this at noon. Starting next week I'll be starting work at 7AM. I can't even imagine what the traffic on 290 will be then.
