Well, I'm relocating to Houston in January and i've posted on here before and was given great feedback so here it goes: I'm single, 33 years old, starting over in Houston, work full time as a nurse. I own a house here in phoenix that im renting out until it sells, the market here is horrible. So until it sells and until I get a good feel for neighborhoods in Houston, I have been looking for a roommate situation- to NO AVAIL!!! I want to live in the heights, midtown areas where I am close to restaurants, bars, etc. I am headed to Houston next weekend to look for places and in my 3 weeks of posting ads and searching, I have nothing. I'm not sure exactly what i am asking but thought maybe some of you may have some suggestions of when I get in town where to look??? Thanks for all your help!

There's an old saying, need an enemy, get a room-mate.

Find something smaller you can afford by yourself. You have enough adjusting to do getting accustomed to a new city without having to get used to living with a stranger. If you can't find what you want in Montrose/Midtown, check further north in the Heights & Lindale Park, or further east in Eastwood.

Roommates can help you get adjusted here much more easily, as long as you find one you mesh with well.

Will you be working in the Medical Center? You've tried houston rooms & shares classifieds - craigslist? I can't imagine you having a hard time finding a roommate here. Are you looking solely in those areas? That might be your problem. Extend your search a little and you can still be close to everything.

I totally agree with you Modster - after being here for a little less than 4 months - I'm glad that I came here alone.

In fact, I didn't allow family to visit until 2 weeks ago, for the holiday. You'll benefit from the "you" time, trust me.

There are a bunch of small, low-key apartment complexes (some of them are so small they're a bit hard to think of as "complexes") along lower Westheimer (for this purpose, say, the 100-3000 block) and along several blocks to the north and south. There are still affordable rental properties that would make a workable *quick fix* while you get that house in AZ sold. May not be roomy, but at least you won't have a roomie. You don't want one unless it's someone you know, like and trust.

Problem is, most of these places do not advertise (they may not be large enough or have enough vacancies to justify it) so they're something you have to go check out personally if that's in any way possible.

And....er, there's that humidity thing. Not such a problem in the winter, but I've heard from a Phoenix transplant or two that it is an adjustment to say the least.

My daughter lives in a really nice building in Midtown which is just down the street from the Medical Center. I don't know where you plan to work but you might consider that area. Here are some links to show you her building and two apartment locators who can help you find a place. My daughter went through apartmentwiz.com and got a really good deal when she moved in a couple of years ago.
