Hello,

My husband and I are planning to move to Houston..We are really looking for a place to move..it will either be Houston or North Carolina. We live very comfortably in Rockand County(New York). I am really going towards Houston. We have 4 children. 19, 9, 5 and 3. Our 3 year old has Cerebral Palsy(we need special school). Best school is a must..nice neighborhood!!

I have been reading about the best areas in Houston.. Where can you live in Houston that's like upstate NY. We live in the woods but we are 30 minutes from the city and 10 minutes from shopping areas. Where can I find an area in Houston like this.

Not gonna find woods here

You have shopping areas here pretty much anywhere. It depends on your job - where will you be working?

Never really noticed woods in The Woodlands! I'm not talking about some bushes.

Well, considering that the northeastern part of Houston (Kingwood for example) is the southern part of the Texas Piney Forest, yes, there are woods and lots of trees up here.

To the OP - Kingwood would probably be a good bet for you. It's would be about 40 minutes into downtown or so, and shopping is good in Kingwood. If you wanted to venture to the Woodlands where they have a great mall, that's about 30 minutes. There's a mall closer to Kingwood (in Humble) that's good, just not as nice. In Kingwood you can find beautiful homes on large wooded lots, great schools, and great shopping. The neighborhoods are nice and friendly. I love it up here!

Besides, depending on where you work, 59 North of Houston is the best commute around.

The Woodlands is definitely not 30 minutes from 'the city' (downtown) unless you're making a midnight, 75-80 mph run down the north freeway! That's nearly a 40 mile drive. Kingwood is out there too, but is going to be a bit closer- about 30 miles from DT. Kingwood is an exurban part of the city of Houston, while The Woodlands is its own entity way north, near Conroe. It's a deceivingly far drive from 'the city' to The Woodlands.

When you say city, I take it you don't mean New York City. Lower Westchester County has never struck me as being particularly wooded.

Cypress....close enough to all the city but not in it. Plenty of woods and neighbors.

If you can afford it, I would suggest the Memorial Villages. Trees and almost 1 acre lots with PLENTY of of trees. Special private schools and a very good program in the public system.

20 minutes to downtown and 3-5 minutes to shopping areas

HAR.COM and search 77024
