The source of crime that occurs in Pearland is much closer to this Centex development than to the Pearland developments, so yes, I would expect there to be issues there.

Sadly, Houston metro is not a good area for finding affordable homes with low crime.

The best bets would be the better parts of Pearland, Deer Park, better parts of Missouri City, and smaller older homes in Sugar Land. If you could stretch your budget to $150k and get a smaller older place (with no MUD taxes), you can get in a much better & established area.

This is true, which is one of the major items affecting the QOL in the metro. With that said, it does happen much more frequently in specific areas, with the area between the Med Center and Pearland being one of them.

Personally I'd cut my losses and look elsewhere. Unfortunately cheap and affordable in Houston proper is now beginning to mean not so great area.

Sigh. I think I might have to start looking again and cut my losses this time. Nothing is worse than trying to save money and end up risking my life in a more-than-usual dangerous area. I was really hoping that it would work out since I liked the houses.

What are the "good" parts of Pearland or Missouri City? I'm thinking I can start looking at Pearland, as long as the neighborhoods there are better.

Did you end up cutting your loses? I'm actually looking into purchasing a place in Parkside as well. After much research the area doesn't seem too bad since it's west of 288s.

See if you can cancel your contract there and apply your earnest money to a Pulte home in another community. They should not have a problem with that since its the same company and they are still getting the sale. Let them know its not about the builder, its more about the location for you.

You couldn't pay me enough to live there. That area is full of serious crime and not far from that neighborhood it is totally rundown...much too close for my comfort.
