We are moving to the area and have no idea where to live. Work will be at/near the Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center. We have a baby so schools will be important eventually. Is there a safe place to live with good schools with such a low budget?

Commute time you're willing to endure?

Willing to put up with a commute. Work hours won't always be during traditional rush hour so some flexibility. Safe location/schools/budget more important than commute time although I have heard horror stories about commutes!!

A long commute will eat up a lot of your budget (gas, tear&wear, tolls, etc). In Houston you shouldn't underestimate the commute's impact on your budget and personal life. I've always paid extra to live close to work but my transportation costs are minimal. It's a trade off.

You could buy a home in Windsor village 77085 it close to the med center for $60k to $80k you will most likely get something that needs a little work and still be under $150k

Most neighborhoods that are $150k or under do not stay really nice for to long the bad elements always find there way to this neighborhood if you want to stay away from this you need to spend $200k+

200k seems a little high, don't you think? You must be rich!

By the time your baby needs 'good schools' you'll probably be in a better position to move up to a 'better neighborhood'. Don't rush yourself getting a house with high expectations. I'd also take any advice here with a grain of salt, even from realtors. It would be best to hear from co-workers and other you'd meet in person
